Lyophilized (Dry Powder) Peptides

Lyophilized peptides are stable at room temperature for short-term shipment but require controlled cold storage for multi-month retention.

  • −20°C: standard long-term storage for most research peptides (6–24 months)
  • −80°C: preferred for peptides with disulfide bonds or labile residues
  • Desiccant: store with silica gel to prevent moisture uptake during freeze-thaw cycles

Reconstituted Solutions

Once bacteriostatic water is added, stability drops sharply:

  • 2–8°C (refrigerated): typically 14–28 days depending on sequence and buffer
  • −20°C: up to 3 months for most sequences; avoid repeated freeze-thaw
  • Avoid: leaving reconstituted solutions at room temperature for more than 4 hours

Freeze-Thaw Cycle Limits

Each freeze-thaw cycle degrades approximately 1–5% of peptide potency depending on the sequence. Aliquoting immediately after reconstitution minimizes cumulative loss.

Recommended: prepare single-use aliquots of the expected dose volume and thaw only what is needed per session.

Temperature Excursions

A brief (under 24-hour) excursion to room temperature during shipping is generally tolerable for lyophilized peptides. For reconstituted solutions, any excursion above 8°C for more than 4 hours warrants a potency re-check before use.
